COM 301 – Film Genre: Sports & Cinema (3 credit hours)
A comparative analysis of sports films and contemporary cultural studies. Students will learn a range of analytical and critical thinking skills, using a cultural studies model approach to film texts and be able to: 1. Understand the major components of this genre. 2. Articulate the value of using this genre as an effective mode of storytelling. 3. Use video to create a detailed story using the elements of the genre. Methodologies: analysis, video/audio, critical reading and writing, textual analysis, and a major research paper. This course will be taught online.
