Explores the conventions and variations of film and media genres such as Science Fiction, Horror, Western, Anime, Epic, Noir, and others (content variable). Explores the history of the content in an international context from the beginning of the genre to the present. Film Genre may be repeated for credit as long as the genre type is different.

A comparative analysis of sports films and contemporary cultural studies. Students will learn a range of analytical and critical thinking skills, using a cultural studies model approach to film texts and be able to: 1. Understand the major components of this genre. 2. Articulate the value of using this genre as an effective mode of storytelling. 3. Use video to create a detailed story using the elements of the genre. Methodologies: analysis, video/audio, critical reading and writing, textual analysis, and a major research paper.
